Councilmember Dr. Mathieu Eugene - Biography
New York City Councilmember Dr. Mathieu Eugene. Born in April 1954 in Cap-Haitian, Haiti. He made history when he won two special elections for City Council to become the first Haitian-born elected official in the state of New York. He attended schools in Haiti, Belgium, Dominican Republic and Mexico. He is a husband, a father of two, a physician, a community organizer and a master in the martial art of Tae Kwon Do. He has a black belt. Dr. Mathieu Eugene, as Executive Director, used to run a non-profit organization that helps young people in Brooklyn, New York.
Dr Mathieu Eugene graduated from medical school at the Universidad del Noreste in Mexico (He does not practice in the U.S.). While he was studying in Belgium, he met the martial art movie superstar Jean-Claude Van Damme. They became friends and have remained so ever since. |
